3 vehicle thieves, snatcher nabbed

Acting on a tip-off, the rural police have nabbed two persons for allegedly stealing vehicles and selling them after forging documents.

Those arrested have been identified as Jarnail Singh of Nepal village and Jaswinder Singh of Sur Singh village. Their accomplice Gur Singh is yet to be arrested. A case under Sections 379, 411 and 473 of the IPC has been registered in this connection.

ASI Baljit Singh said the police got a tip-off about the accused that they were coming towards Ajnala for selling a stolen goods carrier (PB02BN8807). Cops laid a checkpoint near Talwandi Rai Dadu village and signalled a vehicle to stop. After taking a halt, Gur Singh managed to slip away while the others were overpowered by the police party. They had replaced the number plate with a fake one.

The accused were produced in a court and taken on police remand for further interrogation. More recoveries are likely to be made from the suspects while raids are on to nab Gur Singh.

Meanwhile, the city police arrested Lovepreet Singh from near liberty market and recovered three snatched mobiles from his possession. The police also impounded the bike he was riding which was without number plate. A case under Sections 379-B and 411 of the IPC has been registered against him. He has been taken on police remand for further interrogation. The police are expecting more recovery from him.
