BJP leader Sandhya Sikka, Leader of Opposition in the Municipal Corporation (MC) House, has accused the incumbent office-bearers of spending heftily on the decoration of offices, but not on development work.

“Mayor Karamjit Singh Rintu jas failed on every front. Commuters witness potholes after every 500 metre of travel in the city. The MC doesn’t have funds to fill the potholes. Sewage lines are lying choked. Residents are getting contaminated water supply. Development works have stopped since the Congress started ruling,” she said.

Apart from the roads, streets, sewerage and water, the projects announced by the Mayor “haven’t been executed” till date. “The Mayor had announced replacement of the ordinary street lights with LED lights. Contrary to statement, several localities don’t even have ordinary street lights,” she said.

Sikka raised questions on the decoration of the offices of the Mayor, Senior Deputy Mayor, Deputy Mayor and Minister for Local Bodies. “The MC failed to repair even a single road in the city, but spent lakhs on the decoration of offices. The mayor should tell from where they spent money on their offices. Where is the tender notice? The Mayor and other office-bearers don’t have any right to spend the public money for their personal comfort,” she said.

She also accused Mayor Karmajit Singh Rintu of not responding to the phone calls of BJP councillors, said Sikka.

“The residents should teach the Congress a lesson in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections,” she added.
