AAP leaders had to face embarrassment at the election campaign inauguration for Manjinder Singh Sidhu, party candidate from Khadoor Sahib, as senior leaders, including party’s district president Bhupinder Singh Bittu, were conspicuous by their absence.

Sunam MLA and AAP’s state election campaign committee chairman Aman Arora was the chief guest at the rally, organised in Rasulpur, 6 km from here.

Aman Arora exhorted the party workers to unite for the election campaign of Manjinder Singh Sidhu. He said the traditional parties had done nothing to resolve the main issues, such as curbing drug menace, farmers plight and betterment of health and education. “They have preferred their selfish motives,” he said. He appreciated the policies of Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi Government regarding better crop prices for farmers.

Arora is said to have organised a separate closed-door meeting with dissidents after the rally, reportedly attended by district president Bhupinder Singh Bittu, Kashmir Singh Sohal, Jasbir Singh Sursingh, Ranjit Singh Cheema Patti and other area heads.

Later, Bittu said there were differences with the party candidate which were resolved by Aman Arora. Now, all of the party workers would participate in the electioneering for Sidhu from Monday when the candidate’s election office would be opened.

Arora, while talking to mediapersons, said, “Bibi Paramjit Kaur Khalra should withdraw her candidature from Punjabi Ekta Party ticket from Khadoor Sahib as Sukhpal Singh Khaira is trying to meet his political goals by using Khalra’s sacrifice.”

“Sukhpal Singh Khaira joined the Congress in 1997 two years after Jaswant Singh Khalra was killed by the police under the Congress regime in September 1995. While joining the Congress, Khaira had approved, appreciated and praised the policies and functioning of the Congress, which included human rights violations and elimination of Jaswant Singh Khalra,” he added.
