Amritsar, August 20

A newborn baby girl was found abandoned at Guru Nanak Dev Hospital here on Tuesday. The incident came to light after an employee of the hospital saw stray canines fighting over some thing.

On discovering that it was a child, employees raised the alarm and shooed away the dogs. Hospital’s Medical Superintendent Dr Jagdev Singh Kullar said by the time the employees saw the child, she was no more. The child had placenta still attached to its body.

He said the body had been handed over to police and a complaint had been filed. Dr Kullar said the police were investigating the matter and screening the footage of nearby CCTV cameras.

Earlier, it was being stated that the child was a stillborn delivery at the hospital. However, Dr Kullar denied it stating that the hospital had three child deliveries last night, and all three children are healthy.
