Amritsar, December 22

Cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu today tendered a written apology before Akal Takht over the Gurbani row that was sparked by his speech at an event in Ludhiana last month.

Sidhu had been in the eye of the storm ever since, with various Sikh organisations staging protests against him in the state while some even urged Akal Takht to summon him and initiate action.

Sidhu even came under attack twice during the election campaign in Jammu, where he canvassed for the BJP extensively in the run-up to the Assembly polls. His cavalcade was pelted with stones by some Sikh youths who Sidhu alleged were Akali Dal leaders.

Sidhu was accused of wrongly attributing the “bani” of Guru Arjan Dev to Arjun of the Mahabharata, which led to allegations of blasphemy.
