Nagar kirtan in remembrance of Baba Jassa Singh Ahluwalia

A nagar kirtan to commemorate the tri-centennial anniversary of Sikh warrior Baba Jassa Singh Ahluwalia was organised in Amritsar on Sunday. Amidst chanting of jaikaras, the grand procession started from the Akal Takht led by panj pyaras (five beloved ones). It will culminate on April 26 at Gurdwara Rakab Ganj in Delhi after passing through various places.

The Golden Temple’s head priest, Giani Jagtar Singh, performed the ardas and Guru Granth Sahib was enshrined in decorative golden palanquin in presence of SGPC president Gobind Singh Longowal, Takht Damdam Sahib Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh, DSGMC president Manjit Singh GK, Shiromani Panth Akali Budha Dal head Baba Balbir Singh, Tarna Dal head Baba Nihal Singh, SGPC officials, members and representatives of various Sikh organisations.

‘Gatka’ parties and two decorative buses carrying Sikh religious literature and traditional arms accompanied the procession.

Longowal threw light on the immense contribution of Jassa Singh Ahluwalia under whose leadership the Sikh troops successfully launched several campaigns against Mughals. He appealed to the Sikh community to come together leaving aside personal interests. DSGMC president Manjit Singh GK said the youth should get inspiration from the life of the 18th century warrior.
