The burning issue of drug abuse has moved one and all in the state to stand up and do their bit to spread awareness among youth. Joining this social movement, Sawinder Singh, a media professional-turned-director, has made a song — Jimmewariya — featuring the localites and farmers in the city periphery.

The Punjabi song is about sending a message on drug abuse and has been shot from the perspective of the older generation. “It is not just the youth who are suffering due to the menace but also their families, comprising their parents, grandparents, elderlies who are helplessly witnessing their children fading way due to drug abuse. The song is a message where two elderly men try to make the drug-addicted youth understand their responsibilities towards themselves and their families,” says Sawinder Singh.

Making his first song, Singh said the purpose of coming up with it was to change the image of the Punjabi music industry, which is being held responsible in a way for glamourising substance abuse.

The team, working on the song, comprises popular camera artiste Harjit Singh, lyricist Gurbhej Bajwa and music composer Anu Mannu. Everyone on the team has worked for free, understanding their social responsibility, said Sawinder.
