The district police claimed to have solved the murder mystery with the arrest of three persons, including the deceased’s wife. The body of 47-year-old Harjit Singh of Dilawalpur village, 30 km from here, was found on the roadside of Jamarai village in the morning of October 17. He was abducted from his home at midnight by the accused.

Darshan Singh Mann, SSP, in a press conference here on Monday, said that Rajwinder Kaur, wife of the deceased, besides her on-paper husband Satnam Singh and his friend Gurmukh Singh of Saafi Hari, Dirba, Sangrur, had been arrested in connection with the murder. The police have impounded the car of the accused (HR-07-Q-1232) along with sharp-edge weapons used in the crime.

The SSP revealed that the accused, Rajwinder Kaur, had developed illicit relations with Satnam Singh when she went to Singapore in 2004. Both got married on paper in 2011 to get Singaporean citizenship.

Satnam Singh was pressurising Rajwinder Kaur to divorce Harjit Singh, who was not ready to do so.

Both plotted to kill Harjit Singh. Satnam and Gurmukh came to the residence of Harjit Singh at midnight and strangulated him before taking the body in a car which was thrown on the roadside.

Rajwinder Kaur had to depart for Singapore on October 17, the next day of the crime.

The SSP said the three had been arrested.
