Multi-level parking, CCTVs, street lighting in the pipeline

Tenders worth Rs 155.47 crore are set to be floated for a multi-level car parking, 17 parks, CCTVs and street lights. Rajya Sabha MP Shwait Malik said this after holding a meeting with officials of the Amritsar Smart City Corporation Limited (ASCL) and local BJP leaders.

He said about Rs 3,420 crore was to be invested for the infrastructure development of the city under the ambitious project for the next three years till January 2021. However, he added, it depended upon the release of the state’s share of grants by the Capt Amarinder Singh government.

Total number of 17 parks have been selected in and around the walled city to be developed for Rs 3.85 crore.

The Smart City Mission focuses on the preservation of green belts, transforming them into attractive public space and recreational areas, besides increase in greenery, said ASCL Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Deepti Uppal.

She said greenery would be ensured in parks.

Reflecting Sikh architecture, a multi-level car parking will be raised at Kairon market. Four-wheelers will be parked using hydraulic machines without the need of drivers. To enhance the administrative efficiency and flexibility, an integrated command and control centre will be established.

Col (Retd) Manu Chaudhary of the ASCL said installation of over 1,000 CCTV cameras, public Wi-Fi, fleet tracking system, citizen services, solid waste management, air quality analyzer, water quality sensors, message display boards, emergency call box and other facilities was in the pipeline.

LED street lighting at the cost of Rs 38.74 crore will replace the old ones.
