MS of GND Hospital proceeds on leave

The medical superintendent of Guru Nanak Dev Hospital, Dr HS Sohal, has proceeded on leave.

Recently, the faculty of the hospital boycotted the medical services as well as classes to register their protest against the frequent surprise checks by Lok Sabha MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla at the hospital.

Officials of Government Medical College said Dr Sohal had gone on leave till February 28, the day on which he would reach superannuation.

Sources in the college said he would join duties on February 28 and would relieve the charge on the same day.

Meanwhile, the officiating charge of the hospital has been given to Dr Shiv Charan. With Dr Sohal reaching superannuation, the race for the next medical superintendant has hot up.

According to sources, five heads — Dr SK Malhotra, head of the Skin Department; Dr Surinder Pal, head of Pathology; Dr Ravi Kant, head of the Anatomy Department; Dr Jaswant Rai, head of the Pharmacology Department; and Dr Ramesh Chander, head of the Radio diagnosis Department — are the front runners for the post.

College principal Dr Tejbir Singh is also going to retire at the end of March this year.
