Mosaic-work chandeliers from Turkey at the Punjab International Trade Expo (PITEX) have become a centre of attraction among other things at the ongoing five-day exhibition being held at Ranjit Avenue.
About 300 exhibitors are here in the city to offer their products, crafts, home décor items and many other things at the exhibition organised by the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry, supported by the Punjab Government. The exhibition is being held from December 7 to December 11. These mosaic chandeliers are in different shapes and sizes, hanging from stands. Apart from these chandeliers, ceramic plates with mosaic work are also available at a counter set up by the traders from Turkey. Notably, all work is handmade, making it unique as well as attractive. These products range from Rs 1,000 and go up to as high as Rs 25,000.
Murad from Turkey, Istanbul, said, “The work is handmade. There are stands, lamps, and plates. People are coming.” Tina Aggarwal, a local resident visiting PITEX, said, “These chandeliers are beautiful. They are a novelty in PITEX this year. One is unable to find such a huge variety of chandeliers as well as plates.” On the whole, the second day saw a huge rush of residents, thronging various stalls at the exhibition. People could be seen purchasing products of their choice. Sumeet, a businessman, said, “Everything is really good here. The pleasant weather is also adding to the event. The food is good as well.”
Other than items from Turkey, there are flowers and various items made up of mango plant wood from Thailand. Boxes, decoration items, and special wood-door bells are other items of attraction. Special scents as well as traditional spices from Egypt are also available. Among food items, this year people are savouring Rajasthani items the most.
