Amritsar, July 18

Just 22 days after the special task force (STF) caught jail inmate Eric Masih, alias Kanni, running a drug cartel from inside the high security jail through mobile, the Central Jail authorities confiscated another smart phone from his possession.

The incident indicates how jail authorities have failed to curb the problem of mobile usage by inmates.

The jail authorities have lodged a fresh case against him. The police said they would investigate how he managed to get another mobile phone. The officials would try to identify the black sheep in the jail security, if any.

The Islamabad police have registered a case under Section 52-A of the Prisoners Act against him. They said he would be brought on production warrant for further probe.

The name of Eric Masih figured following the arrest of two drug smugglers — Nishant Kumar of Indira Colony and Jeewan Singh of the Chabal road area. They were nabbed by the special task force which recovered 515 gm of heroin and synthetic drug powder, called ‘cut’, from their possession on June 22. Their interrogation revealed that they had been working for Eric Masih who was operating from jail premises. They used to bring the contraband from Delhi. They used to supply the same in Chheharta, Verka, Ajanala Road area, Bhagtanwala and Chabbal Road area.

Who's Eric?

Eric Masih has been accused of running a drug cartel from inside the jail. He was caught possessing a mobile phone 22 days ago in jail. Another mobile phone has been seized from his possession. He had been passing instructions to his aides for supplying contraband.
