Violating rules, an SUV belonging to Congress MLA Sunil Dutti was spotted parked in the lane reserved for the metro bus service near his residence and camp office on Batala Road. The company operating the BRTS has been making several efforts to stop the parking inside the lane, but the lawmakers themselves have been violating the rules.

Residents have been observing that an SUV, Toyota Fortuner, with a VIP registration number (PB 02 AL 0006) carrying a sticker of MLA is often parked inside the BRTS lane near Dutti’s home.

The two-way BRTS track from Celebration Mall to the bus stand is yet to be completed.  However, only a single track from Verka to the railway station is functional.

The residents and the shopkeepers often park their vehicles on the BRTS lane.

Ashwani Garg, manager of the operating company, said, “We have deployed security guards to curb the practice.  A few days ago, we took help of the traffic police to clear the BRTS track as a large number of vehicles were parked inside the lane”.

However, MLA Dutti denied that he had been parking his vehicles in the BRTS lane.  “We don’t park our vehicles in this way, as I have enough space in my home. There is a marriage palace in front of my house. Visitors at the marriage place park their vehicles in the BRTS lane”.

When asked that photographs of his vehicle have been clicked in the BRTS lane, Dutti said, “The driver might have parked it for a few minutes; otherwise we don’t park vehicles in the lane”.

Manvinderbir Singh, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic), said, “Our cops keep a check on the BRTS lane and clear it on priority. We are aware that people park their vehicles here and we issue them a warning. We will start taking action when the BRTS company starts business on all routes”.
