Amritsar, October 7

Members of the All Punjab Rehri and Pherri Union took out a protest march today against forcible lifting of vegetable vendors at Jandiala intersection on the GT road.

Union general secretary Inderpal said scores of vendors were earning their livelihood by selling fruit and vegetable at Daburji Adda. He claimed that the market had been in existence for the past five decades. It was shocking that the government was removing these vendors all of a sudden, he added. He said the union was forced to launch a public protest after police officials informed them that vends were being removed on the instructions of Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal.

Members of the union raised slogans against the government. The protesters concluded their agitation at the district courts complex after submitting their memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner.
