Punjab State Medical and Dental Teachers’ Association has criticised the state government for constituting a high-powered planning and monitoring committee for upgrading and monitoring medical institutions in the state. It reasoned that the persons, who were advisers to the previous government, had been retained in the new committee.

The association stated that these advisers were responsible for the deterioration of the medical education in the state and when the same persons were there in the new committee it would not serve any purpose. “Apart from a person, who is adviser to former CM, the faculty has strong objections over the involvement of at least other two members,” said association president HS Sohal.

The association has stated that most of these members are veterans who are out of touch with the latest advancements and their services will not benefit the medical education. One of the members is a PCMS official who doesnot have any concern with medical education and another one is a private practitioner from Patiala with no teaching experience, he said. The association has also requested the president of the Punjab Medical Council to not to opt for the post as he is already heading a constitutional post.
