Amritsar, June 14

The MC will install three tube wells and a sub-fire station to control frequent incidents of fire at the garbage dump in Bhagtanwala. Mayor Karamjit Singh Rintu and MC Commissioner Sonali Giri visited the dump to inaugurate a room for the tube well and fire office on Thursday.

Residents of the area gathered and staged a protest against the local MLA, government and the MC. They surrounded the officials and raised slogans. Mayor Karamjit Singh Rintu pacified and called them for a meeting. Residents opposed the installation of solid waste management plant and demanded shifting of the dump. The Mayor assured them that no solid waste management plant would be installed at the Bhagtanwala dump.

“We have installed pumps and a fire station to douse flames which often erupt at the garbage dump. We will also ensure herbal spray on the dump regularly. A park will be developed in the area for children. The shifting of the dump is in the jurisdiction of Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh. I will accompany residents if they wanted to meet the CM to demand the shifting,” he added.
