Amritsar, March 28

Even as the city police have booked a person for allegedly raping a married woman, the victim alleged that the police have not taken appropriate action and freed several others in the case.

The Division C police station has registered a case under Section 376, IPC, against Manpreet Singh alias Mannu, son of Kulwant Singh and a resident of Patti Sarawan in Chatiwind village. No arrest has been made so far.

The case was registered following an investigation and taking opinion from the district attorney in the case. The complainant alleged that she was lured for marriage and kept at different rented places in the city and Zirakpur near Chandigarh where she was raped by the accused and his accomplices from June 2016 to February 2017.

In her complaint, she named several persons including a woman (an aide) while accusing them of raping her besides threatening to kill her. However, she alleged that they were freed by the cops in their so-called investigations for ‘obvious’ reasons.

On the other hand, investigating officer Attar Singh said the case was registered following an inquiry by senior officials. He said during the inquiry, the role of other suspects could not be proved and there was no evidence against them. — TNS
