SAD (Amritsar) president Simranjit Singh Mann has appealed to Narendra Modi to postpone his proposed first address to the newly elected Lok Sabha members on June 6 as the day (Ghallughara Divas) is dedicated to attack on Sri Harmandar Sahib in 1984.

Mann was here in the town on Tuesday to hand over a memorandum to the district administration, demanding action against the “errants” who demolished the ‘Darshani Deodhi’ of Sri Darbar Sahib. The ‘deodhi’ was partially demolished by the workers of Baba Jagtar Singh, who holds kar sewa. The ‘deodhi’ was damaged on March 30 night which was opposed by Sikh activists.

Mann, while addressing party workers who have been organising a protest for an indefinite period at the main gate of the ‘Darshni Deodhi’ since its demolition, said that a number of historical and ancient religious buildings have already been razed under the name of kar sewa and the SGPC was responsible for the same.

Mann warned that in case no action was taken against the guilty who demolished the ‘Darshni Deodhi’ till June 6, the party would intensify its struggle.

Party leaders, under the leadership of Simranjit Singh Mann, handed over a memorandum to the DC, demanding criminal case against the accused.

“As Sikhs worldover will hold congregations on June 6 so the joint session of the Parliament must be postponed to express solidarity with the Sikh community,” he said.

He reminded that on the appeal of his party, once Pakistan’s the then PM Nawaz Sharif had postponed his swearing-in ceremony.
