A man has been arrested for trying to rape his stepdaughter in Fatahpur. Identified as Ashok Kumar, alias Vicky, of Bhai Vir Singh Colony at Mullechak village, the accused attempted the crime when his wife had gone to a hospital where her son had been admitted.

The victim’s mother stated to the police that she had five daughters from her first marriage. After the death of her husband, she was remarried to Vicky. She had a daughter and a son from the second marriage. On Saturday, her son fell ill so he was admitted to a private hospital in Chheharta.

She alleged when she returned home, her 15-year-old daughter told her that Vicky had tried to assault her sexually. The accused had bolted the door of the room from inside and threw her on the bed when raised the alarm, making him flee.

The police have registered a case under Sections 354 and 506 of the IPC and 10 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.

Meanwhile, in another incident, the Maqboolpura police have booked a youth, identified as Sajan, alias Kala, of Dashmesh Nagar near Joura Phatak, for molestation. The victim said she was going on her scooter to Gurdwara Shaheed Baba Deep Singh when the accused intercepted her near Golden Avenue. She alleged the accused resorted to indecency and when she opposed, he allegedly slapped her.
