Three motorcycle-borne persons today robbed a labour contractor of Rs 7 lakh at gunpoint. The victim, Ramesh Kumar, was going to a private firm to distribute salaries among his labourers when he was targeted near Pandori Waraich village. A suspect has been detained.
Senior police officials reached the spot after getting the information.
Ramesh told the police that he withdrew Rs 7 lakh from a branch of Oriental Bank of Commerce. He said he was going a plastic factory in his car where around 90 labourers of his firm works. He said three bike-borne persons intercepted him near Pandori Waraich village. Two of them hit his car’s windowpane with a ‘datar’ (a sharp-edged weapon), opened the door of the car and snatched his bag. When he resisted their attempt, they took out a pistol and threatened to shoot him down. Ramesh gave them a chase. Meanwhile, their bike developed a snag and they ran away leaving the bike behind.
Parampal Singh, SSP, Amritsar rural, said the bike belonged to a resident of Majitha who was taken into custody for investigations. A case was has been registered at the Kamboh police station.

After committing the crime, robbers’ bike developed a snag so they fled leaving the vehicle on the spot.
