Man held with charas

The CIA staff arrested Rohit Gill, alias Kukka, a resident of Chitta Gumat, and recovered 600 gm of charas (hashish) from his possession. Following preliminary interrogation, the police also indicted his brother Rahil, alias Raghu, in the case.

Vavinder Mahajan, in charge of the CIA staff, said Rohit tried to dodge the police party at a naka in Ram Bagh. However, he was chased and nabbed by the cops. During search, the police confiscated 600 gm of charas from his possession. He said as per initial probe, he used to procure the contraband from Bihar and Himachal Pradesh to sell the same in different parts of the border belt and the city.

Kulwant Singh, investigating officer, said he was produced in the court and brought on one-day police remand.

He said his brother Rahil was a notorious bootlegger and a couple of cases under the Excise Act were registered against him. It is for the first time both the brothers have been booked under the NDPS Act, he said. He said raids were on to nab Rahil, who is absconding. A case under Sections 29, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act has been registered against them.
