A Batala resident was arrested for allegedly assaulting cops and trying to run them over with his car on the court road here yesterday evening. Four others accompanying him fled. The accused is said to have links with notorious gangsters active in the region.

Tejinder Singh of Batala rammed his car into the barricades installed by a police team near Doaba Chowk.

ASI Satnam Singh, in-charge of the Circuit House police post, said he along with a police party signalled a car (PB-46-AH-4234) to stop but the driver of the car sped up to flee. Meanwhile, the car hit the barricades and the the cops had to jump aside to save themselves. Four persons ran away from the spot while Tejinder was overpowered by the police team.
