Amritsar, May 20

Gurmukh Singh, a resident of Preet Nagar, committed suicide by hanging himself here on Saturday. A suicide note was found in his pocket. His family accused his in-laws of harassing him.

Acting on the complaint of the deceased’s father, Jaswant Singh, the police have booked his in-laws for abetment of suicide.

Among those booked are Rajwant Kaur, Paramjit Kaur, Bunty, Raju Baba and Sukhi, all residents of 88-Futa Road. A case under Section 306 of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against them.

Jaswant stated to the police that Gurmukh had gone to meet his children at his in-laws house but they didn’t allow him to do so. “Perturbed over this, he hanged himself,” he said.

He said Gurmukh’s wife Rajwant had gone to her parents following a dispute with her husband.

Davinder Singh, investigating officer, said that no arrest had been made as the accused were at large. “A suicide note was found from his pocket that he had written around two months ago,” he added. — TNS
