Man booked for raping 12-yr-old

AMRITSAR: The local police booked a man for allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl here on Monday. The accused has been identified as Ranjit Singh, alias Jeeta, a resident of Kohali village.

The local police booked a man for allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl here on Monday. The accused has been identified as Ranjit Singh, alias Jeeta, a resident of Kohali village.

The victim’s father told the police that on July 13, his daughter was alone in house. In the afternoon, when he came home, the girl was not present, he said.

The father added, “I heard the screams from a nearby house and when I went to the house, I saw Ranjeet was committing the crime. After seeing me, he fled from the spot.”

On a complaint of the victim’s father, a case under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Sections 4 and 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO Act) has been registered against the accused. No arrest has been made so far.
