Man accused of forced abortion, bigamy

A woman has accused her husband of bigamy and forcing her for aborting her child twice. The victim also alleged that the accused demanded dowry and threw her out of the house after assaulting her.

Paramjit Kaur, a resident of Kotli Khehra, had lodged a police complaint in September 2017. The case was registered on Saturday after a probe conducted by SP (Investigations) Harpal Singh.

She stated to the police that she was married to Pardeep Singh in September 2016. Before marriage, he had introduced Joginder Singh as his father, Veer Kaur as mother, Pawanpreet Kaur, Satinder Kaur and eight others, all residents of Johns village, as his family members. She said that they were not his kin in actuality.

She alleged that he started demanded an SUV after the marriage. Her family expressed their inability to give the same following which the accused started assaulting and harassing her. She alleged the accused forcibly got her aborted two times. Now, Pardeep Singh has solemnised his marriage with another girl without taking a divorce from her, she alleged.

The police investigated the case and also took the opinion of the district attorney before registering an FIR against the suspects.

A case under Sections 313 (causing miscarriage without woman’s consent), 420 (cheating), 406 (criminal breach of trust), 498-A (husband or kin subjecting woman to cruelty) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC was registered against the accused at the Bhindisaida police station. No arrest has been made.

Tejinder Singh, investigating officer, said raids were on to nab the suspects while further investigation was under way.
