Amritsar, February 23

Rajya Sabha MP Shwait Malik handed over a memorandum to Canadian Defence Minister Harjit Singh Sajjan, seeking direct flights from Amritsar to Vancouver and Toronto.

He was the only MP invited for the lunch hosted at Hyderabad House, Delhi, in the honour of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and other dignitaries. He stated in the communiqué that a large number of Indians of Punjabi origin were residing in Canada. In absence of a direct flight between Amritsar and Canada, they are to travel via Delhi, prolonging the distance, wasting their time and burdening them financially. He requested Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to impress upon Air Canada to start a direct flight between Amritsar, Toronto and Vancouver.
