After a massive road show powerful Akali Minister Bikram Singh Majithia today filed his nomination papers from the Majitha Assembly seat today.

The value of total assets declared by him in his papers is Rs 11.89 crore, which is slightly higher than previous Assembly elections, when these were pegged at Rs 11.21 crore. His annual income was about Rs 35.57 lakh in 2015-16. He has also taken a little over Rs two lakh loan.

The value of his total agriculture land stands at Rs 6.2 crore. As per details of his movable and immovable assets over 28 acre was procured at Rania village in Sirsa in 2007 at Rs 19.85 lakh, whose value rose to Rs 4.96 crore. It also includes Rs 6.50 lakh worth Fat Boy model 2013 make Harley Davidson. Over five acre was purchased in Mohammadpura village in Sirsa in 2004-06, which is worth Rs 1 crore today. He also bought 2.11 kanal in Majitha village in 2010.

His wife Ganieve Kaur recorded a jump in value of her assets from the last elections. In 2012, his wife’s moveable assets were worth Rs 43 lakh. She owned land worth Rs 3 crore. No vehicle was declared in her name.

However, this time she has declared Rs 2.40 crore in cash, savings, shares, vehicle and jewellery. She owns land in Sangrur, Shimla and Majitha, whose value is worth Rs 3.56 crore. Her annual income was Rs 9.79 lakh in 2015-6. She has also taken loan of Rs 1.14 crore, including Rs 65 lakh, from her father-in-law Satyajit Singh Majithia.

This time Majithias’s two minor sons Tejvir and Prahlad also have land in their names at Guruwali village in Amritsar. Collective value of these properties stands at Rs 23 lakh.

In 2012, Majithia declared total assets worth Rs 11.21 crore. This included his moveable assets worth Rs 5 crore, bank balance and other deposits Rs 9.5 lakh, and jewellery worth Rs 24 lakh.

Having taken his formative education at DAV School, Patiala, and graduation from Delhi’s St Stephen, Bikram is seeking re-election from Majitha for the third consecutive time.

Returning officer Damanjot Singh Mann accepted his nomination papers. In a statement to the media he termed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s description of his party symbol as palm of Guru Nanak Dev a sacrilege. He added that the Congress leaders had invariably hurt feelings of Sikhs.

Earlier, he was accompanied by a serpentine queue of vehicles from historic Gurdwara Guru Ke Ber at Mattewal village during his road show.
