Amritsar, June 18

Unidentified armed robbers looted a car at gunpoint from a Ludhiana resident near the Beas bridge on the intervening night of June 16-17. His family was returning to Ludhiana after visiting the city.

Sunil Kumar, a resident of Shiv Enclave, located on Tajpur road in Ludhiana, told the police that he, along with his family, had come to Amritsar for celebrating the birthday of his son.

He said they were returning to Ludhiana in their car (bearing registration number PB 10 FZ 0468). When they reached near the Beas, a car overtook them and stopped in front of them.

He said as they stopped the car, another car halted behind their car while a third car stopped by their side.

In his complaint submitted to the Beas police, he said two youths alighted from the first car and pointed a gun at them. They asked them to come out of the car and they did the same fearing that they would not think twice before firing at them. The accused later fled away with their car. He said his car had Rs 25,000 in cash, three mobile phones, a laptop and important documents.

The Beas police registered a case under Section 379-B of the IPC. However, they had failed to get any breakthrough in the case so far. Parampal Singh, SSP, Amritsar rural police, said the police had been working in the case. “We are working day and night to crack the case. Hopefully, we will arrest the culprits soon,” he said. — TNS
