Amritsar, October 13

One more day of the local leaders vanished as they waited for the fresh details about the boundaries of newly constituted wards. It was expected that the Local Bodies Department would release the fresh boundary details of wards today.

The officials of the MC confirmed that they did not receive a detail list till evening. After delimitation of wards, the MC has increased the number of wards from 65 to 85. The former councillors and local leaders are not aware about the new boundaries of wards.

Rajesh Honey, the District President of BJP, and former councillor, alleged that the state government was befooling other leaders by not issuing the detail list of wards.

However, Navjot Singh Sidhu, Minister for Local Bodies, had claimed that delimitation process of the MC wards has been completed a day before yesterday, but the department did not release demarcation details of new wards till the date.

In the absence of any response from the department the local politicians, who are ambitious to contest the MC elections are still in confusion. They cannot begin their political campaigns till the boundaries not get finalised.

The term of Municipal Corporation house had ended on September 18 and now the MC Commissioner is administrator of the house.

However, Sidhu said all arrangements have been done to conduct the local bodies’ elections in December.

The opposition parties including Bhartiya Janta Party, Shiromani Kali Dal and Aam Admai Party, have been alleging the Congress government for delay in the elections.

Now, the leaders for elections have been waiting for the boundary details of wards.
