The district administration has decided to hold kabaddi matches as part of Guru Nanak Dev’s 550th birth anniversary celebrations from July 17 to 27 here.
Deputy Commissioner Shivdular Singh Dhillon ordered district officials and representatives of various sports associations and coaches to carry out the tournament with full zeal and dedication.
He also informed players about eligibility criteria. In the U-14 category, player born on January 1, 2006 or after can take part, while in the U-18 category, players born in 2002 or after are eligible to participate. In the U-25 category, players born on January 1, 1995 or after can participate, he added.
The kabaddi matches will be held at subdivision level from July 17 to July 27 at various locations, he said.
Gurlal Singh Riar, District Sports Officer, said, “ Athletics, boxing, basketball, football, judo, hockey, gymnastics artistic and rhythmic, wrestling, kabaddi (national style), table tennis, volleyball, weightlifting and swimming competitions will be conducted for both boys and girls in three age groups.” He said the selected players would represent the state in different competitions.
