Cabinet Minister Anil Joshi today unveiled civic development works worth Rs 842 crore for the holy city, besides installation of the highest National Flag in the country at the Attari border.

Addressing mediapersons here today, Joshi said these works include sewerage, road, streetlights, water supply and others. He said all these projects would be given a one year deadline. Funds had been adequately divided between all the five constituencies of the holy city, he added.

Giving further details Joshi said Rs125.93 crore was allocated to the North constituency, Rs126.68 crore to the south constituency, Rs140.84 crore to west constituency, Rs91.05 crore to the east constituency, and Rs81.10 crore to the central constituency.

He said this sum was apart from the funds being invested by the Punjab Water Supply and Sewerage Board for laying a network of sewerage pipes. A 300-foot high National Flag would be installed at the Attari border, he added. He said a tender was floated for the same and it would be installed soon. All NOCs had been secured for the project and the BSF authorities were also in touch, he added.

Joshi said a number of development projects had been undertaken in the city to improve the infrastructure. He said children’s park at historic Ram Bagh would be ready within the next two months. A musical fountain would soon be thrown open to the public, he added. He said a cycle track around Trillum Mall would also be set up.

The Local Bodies Minister called upon the residents to cooperate with the government in maintaining cleanliness in the city. He asked them not to encroach on government land and stop littering on roads.

He said the Amritsar Improvement Trust (AIT) would raise a new crematorium, equipped with modern amenities, over 4.5 acre at Ranjit Avenue on Gumtala Road, with an investment of Rs5.5 crore. The digital survey of the land was completed, he added. He said the crematorium would have ample sitting arrangements, a flower room, toilet for taking bath, a meditation room and other amenities.

A community centre would be constructed at the cost of Rs10 crore in E-block of the Ranjit Avenue area, he added. Joshi said the centre would come up on 1,000 sqyds. There would also be a provision to make the building multi-storey, he added. He said sufficient car parking lots and footpaths with inter-locking tiles had already been provided in the area.
