Jail inmate escapes from hospital

AMRITSAR: A jail inmate slipped away from Guru Nanak Dev Hospital where he was admitted after falling ill.

A jail inmate slipped away from Guru Nanak Dev Hospital where he was admitted after falling ill. He has been identified as Vijay Singh, a resident of Ekta Nagar, Chamrang Road.

Besides him, the police have also booked three jail guards for dereliction of duty. A case under Sections 223 and 224 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered at Majitha road police station. The cops, who have been booked, are Gurcharan Singh, Jarnail Singh and Vikram Partap Singh.

Rajiv Kumar, Deputy Superintendent, Central Jail, stated to the police that Vijay was arrested in connection with a theft case. On Monday, he fell ill and therefore admitted to ward number 4 of the GNDH. Gurcharan, Jarnail and Vikram Partap Singh were deputed to guard him. On Wednesday, a doctor from the ward informed the jail authorities that Vijay was not in bed. During preliminary probe, it was found that he slipped away due to alleged negligence of three cops.
