The State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) nabbed two persons, including an aide of gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria, with 7 kg of heroin here on Monday. The accused have been identified as Ranjit Singh of Moude village and Gursewak Singh of Jasror village.

The police had got a tip-off following which a police team, led by Inspector Gurinderpal Singh, apprehended the accused from the airport road.

Amarjit Singh, AIG, State Special Operation Cell, said the accused were waiting for a party to deliver the consignment of heroin near Hayer village on the airport road when the cops arrested them. While searching their belongings, 7 kg of heroin was seized.

A case under Sections 21, 25, 29, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act at the State Special Operation Cell police station has been registered.

AIG Amarjit Singh said the accused revealed that the whole network was being run by notorious gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria, who is lodged in the Hoshiarpur jail. They are learnt to have been working on his direction. Ranjit Singh used to supply heroin as per his instructions.

There are multiple cases of murder, attempted murder, robbery, extortion and drug trafficking pending against Jaggu Bhagwanpuria. Ranjit Singh was arrested in 2015 with 500 gram of heroin. He was out on bail in that case. Ranjit Singh is also a proclaimed offender in a case registered by Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) in 2012, pertaining to the recovery of 23 kg of heroin in Attari.

“The recovered heroin was meant for local sale. The source of heroin and where it was to be sold are being ascertained. More arrests and recoveries are likely to be made during the course of investigation," he added.
