ISSR opens camp office in city

Amritsar: Punjab Speaker Charanjit Singh Atwal inaugurated the Punjab branch of Institute of Social Science Research (ISSR) in the city. The centre for social sciences research has its head office in New Delhi and it also functions as an NGO to work towards policy making and creating awareness regarding socially relevant issues in the public.

Punjab Speaker Charanjit Singh Atwal inaugurated the Punjab branch of Institute of Social Science Research (ISSR) in the city. The centre for social sciences research has its head office in New Delhi and it also functions as an NGO to work towards policy making and creating awareness regarding socially relevant issues in the public. 

Its camp office in the city will be situated at Universal ITI Amarkot (Opp Khalsa College for Women). Institute of Social Sciences is a nationally and internationally recognised NGO engaged in academic research and policy making. It was established in 1985 and many distinguished personalities had been associated with it.

Recently, city-based social researcher Dr SS Chhina, who is also a popular agricultural economist, was nominated as a co-coordinator of the institute. He was also awarded a fellowship at the ISSR. The advisory team of distinguished academicians and administrators from Punjab, Himachal and J&K would be associated with the Institute.

Dr George Mathe, chairman of the institute in New Delhi, addressed the need for such research- based organisations in the city. Canada-based NRI and businessman Harpal Singh Dhaliwal was the guest of honour on the occasion.
