Amritsar, November 12

While the shopkeepers in Hall Bazaar are adamant upon not allowing Municipal Corporation to convert the roadside area into paid parking, the shoppers feel the issue of traffic bottlenecks needs immediate attention.

Parking of vehicles along the roads creates traffic snarls. A resident Sukhpal Singh said, “The white line on the road clearly demarcates the parking area from the space meant for flow of traffic. However vehicles can be seen standing on the prohibited area.”

The local MC has a spacious parking in the basement of Deen Dyal Upadhyay market at the entrance of Hall bazaar but it has not become popular with the visitors due to high parking fee and lack of visibility.

“The MC has the land of old sabzi mandi lying vacant for the years. If it could be converted into an affordable parking space, the problem of congestion in Hall Bazaar area can also be solved,” said another resident, Jagpal Kumar. — TNS
