The teaching fraternity in the city has hailed the move of education department to install CCTV cameras in at least 200 examination centers prone to cheating. The Punjab School education board has identified such centres. The cameras shall be installed at the centres for board examination of X and XII. The department has taken the action after identifying the examinations centers. The CCTV cameras shall be monitored by special teams.

Hailing the move, a government teacher Anil Kumar, said, “This move is surely going to help in the long run. The students taking examination shall be more careful for their activities as they will be monitored. These exams are very important for students.”

Reacting on this, another government teacher in the city Sarabjit Singh said, “Cheating itself has decreased over the years. The mechanisms that the department is following have already been a success. I see this move as a mere addition to them.”

Ashwini Awasthi, leader of Democratic teachers union said, “We welcome the move. These cameras shall be of great help to conduct a fair examination. However, I feel instead of selective centers, all schools should have CCTV cameras.

Mangal Singh Tanda, leader of the government teachers’ union, welcomed the move and has asked the government to reconsider their move to interchange centres of CBSE with PSEB ones. He said, “The department is considering interchanging of centres of examination of students appearing in PSEB board examination. It is practically not possible as students in villages live in far-flung areas. They won’t be able to reach centres other than their schools. This is not a comfortable move.”
