More than four months after the death of a married woman, the police have booked her in-laws for abetment of suicide. Neetu, the victim, mother of two children had died on December 1, 2017 and her in-laws had claimed that she had died of heart attack.

Deceased’s mother Rama Kumari, a resident of Mohali, had raised suspicion over her death so she had called the police and requested for the postmortem examination. The police had initiated action under Section 174 of the CrPC at that time.

Now, after getting the postmortem examination report, the police have booked Neetu’s husband Gaurav, his brother Mohan Lal and Mohan’s wife Ruchi for abetement of suicide.

Jaspal Singh, SHO, Division A police station, said the autopsy confirmed that she died of strangulation due to hanging so a case under Sections 306 and 34 of the IPC was registered against the suspects on the statement of Rama Kumari.

He said no one had been arrested. Further investigation is under progress, said the Station House Officer.

Hanged herself

Initially, the family had claimed that Neetu died of heart attack but autopsy report suggested that the death was caused due to strangulation, apparently after she hanged herself. Her husband, father-in-law and mother-in-law have been booked for abetment of suicide.
