IIM-Amritsar to increase 50 MBA seats from next year

AMRITSAR: The Indian Institute of Management (IIM)-Amritsar will increase 50 seats in its Masters in Business Administration (MBA) programme from the next academic session.

The Indian Institute of Management (IIM)-Amritsar will increase 50 seats in its Masters in Business Administration (MBA) programme from the next academic session.

Besides, the institute will also bring in a number of academic changes in the next session. At present, the institute offers the MBA programme for two years. Admission to the course is held on the basis of the Common Admission Test. The curriculum will also be revised to make it industry oriented.

Talking about his vision for the institute, Prof Nagarajan Ramamoorthy, Director, IIM-Amritsar, said, “We are increasing 50 seats in the MBA programme. From the next academic session, there will be a total of 200 seats. We have initiated a process to hire faculty members.”

“Education of management should prepare a student for the industry. Minds are to be motivated towards entrepreneurship as well. The effort is on bridge the skill gap. Education has to be focused on holistic development,” added Prof Ramamoorthy, who is an alumnus of XLRI, Jamshedpur. He also stressed on the need for the qualified management faculty across the nation.

The authorities are working to introduce an executive working MBA for working professionals. This programme is meant for managerial personnel to enhance their skill set.

“The idea is to help professional skills in the long run. Classes are going to take place on weekends. Certain parameters will be established for the same,” he said.

Prof Ramamoorthy has done PhD in Business and Management from the Robert H. Smith School of Business, University of Maryland, USA.

The construction work of the IIM-Amritsar campus at Manawala will start in November.
