Amritsar, May 23

A day after the mysterious death of a newly-married woman, Navpreet Kaur, the police today arrested her husband Vikramjit Singh and father-in-law Mangal Singh.

Vikramjit’s mother Kanwaljit Kaur has also been booked, but yet to be arrested.

Navpreet Kaur was marred to Vikramjit Singh around three months ago. Her family alleged that Navpreet was strangled to death by her in-laws. She was being subjected to mental and physical torture, her family alleged. A day before her death, a verbal duel had occurred in the family and the victim had informed about this to them over phone. They stated to the police that her in-laws informed them at noon that she was not well and admitted to a hospital.

ACP, East, Prabhjot Singh Virk said the police was yet to get the autopsy report, so they couldn’t say if it was a murder. The police have registered a suicide case on the basis of preliminary probe and statement of victim’s family. — TNS
