Amritsar, December 1
Quacks are running their business right under the nose of the local administration, which is evident from their makeshift shops at public places. They lure gullible patients in their trap by promising miraculous results. There seems to be no dearth of clients for them. A person was seen getting his teeth extracted from a quack on the footpath of a road near the local bus stand on Friday.
Apart from dentistry, the quacks can be seen selling sex-enhancing medicines at public places. An official of the Health Department said around 200 quacks, some of whom have set up permanent clinics, are practising in the city.
Makeshift tents of quacks, who claim ayurvedic cure for each and every physical problem, can be seen at few places in the city. One such tent was earlier seen on the Ram Tirath road. Billboards outside these tents attract the attention of uneducated patients.
A local doctor said, “When a patient falls in the trap of an quack, he is not able to reach a qualified doctor in time. In various instances, I have seen patients, who could have easily been cured, had they not fallen prey to such imposters.”
The Health Department has taken action against a few unqualified persons, who were caught treating patients. However, more stringent action is required keeping in view exploitation of the poor, uneducated people.
Some quacks advertise in vernacular newspapers making tall claims of having cure for each and every disease.
