Harbhajan joins nets with teammates

Star cricketer Harbhajan Singh, who is also the Captain of Punjab Ranji team, today practised with his team mates at the Gandhi cricket ground here. As the word spread about Harbhajan Singh practising at the nets, youngsters pouring in to see their star right-arm off-break spinner bowling.

The city will host two editions of four-day Ranji matches. Host Punjab will vie with West Bengal from November 17. Another four-day match will be played between Punjab and Services from November 25.

Punjab along with Goa, Vidharba, Himachal Pradesh, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh and Services is placed in the Ranji Group D league.

Both Punjab and West Bengal have played four matches each in the group. Punjab won two matches and lost an equal number of matches. With 15 points, it stood second in Group D.

West Bengal won one match, lost one and in two contests drew the matches. It is at the third position in Group D ranking with 13 points.

Local cricket lovers would have the opportunity to see IPL star Manpreet Dhoni, Gurkirat Singh Maan, sons of the soil Sharat Loomba and Vinay Choaudhary in action in the proposed contest.

Popular faces from the West Bengal team will have Captain Manoj Tiwari, Ridhiman Shah, Mohammad Sami and Ashok.

The pre-Partition era Gandhi ground hosted many reputed national and international contests in the past.
