Amritsar, December 11

In a series of pre-wedding ceremonies of Kapil Sharma and Ginni Chatrath, a ‘jaago’ was taken out from the former’s residence here.

Jaago, a traditional “wake up” ceremony observed by the groom and bride’s families to wish them blessings is a vibrant mix of folk songs and dance. In a cue with the grand wedding celebrations, noted Punjabi folk singer Gurmeet Bawa performed ‘booliyan’ and ‘ghodhiyan’ with her daughter Lacchi Bawa.

“We had prepared special ‘bolis’ for his wedding complete with the flavour of Majha. It is wonderful to be a participant in the wedding ceremonies of such a humble and remarkable artiste. Kapil has always been grounded and connected to his hometown Amritsar. Since he decided to get married in the holy city, everything has been kept truly traditional,” said folk singer Lacchi Bawa.

With a glittering list of guests, among the most excited ones were actors Anita Devgan and Hardeep Gill. “I am very excited for Kapil’s wedding. I have known him since we first began our stint with acting and theatre. He has remained the same from the beginning,” said Anita Devgan.

The festivities will continue with Kapil and Ginni’s shagun ceremony in Jalandhar, where special qawwals from Pakistan will also perform, she said.

Noted thespian Kewal Dhaliwal also gave his blessings to the happy couple ahead of their wedding.

“I have worked with both Ginni and Kapil in theatre productions. Ginni was a theatre enthusiast and worked with me in a play titled ‘Bandh Andheron Mein’ back in 2006-07. Kapil worked with me in a play titled ‘Shayari’ in which he played a double role. They both are generous and positive people,” he added.

Other prominent personalities, who have already arrived in the city for the wedding, are actor Krushna, Bharti Singh, Sumona Chakravarti, Roshan Prince, singer Richa Sharma and Lakhwinder Wadali.
