Amritsar, June 10

Even after a lapse of three days, the police are clueless about the robbery at the house of a goldsmith in Mohan Nagar area on Sultanwind Road here.

The police suspect the involvement of an insider and have taken the help of the cyber crime wing, scrutinising the call details in the area.

“We are hopeful of identifying and arrest the suspects soon as our investigations are moving in a positive direction,” said JS Walia, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police.

The police are looking at the details of the goldsmith’s clients to whom he had loaned money on interest. The robbers had also taken away the surety cheques from the locker of the house.

Robbers fled with 800 gm gold and over Rs 11.5 lakh in cash from the house after taking the family hostage at gunpoint.

Jasbir Singh, the goldsmith, was not present when the incident took place. His son Satnam Singh, who is physically challenged, told the police that he was present in the house when two persons came and asked for him. His mother opened the gate. Immediately after they entered the house, they took all the members, including his mother, sister and him, hostage.

They demanded the keys of the almirah and locker. They later opened the safe and decamped with the valuables. He said one of them had covered his face.

The police have got CCTV footage in which the accused, with faces covered, were seen fleeing from the spot on a motorcycle.
