The gold jewellery robbed from Guru Bazaar area is making its way back to goldsmiths in the same area. This came to the light when the police nabbed goldsmith Vishal Dhir, who had purchased looted gold from gangster Angrej Singh.

Following his interrogation, several other goldsmiths have also come under police’s radar. Vishal’s name figured in the interrogation of notorious Angrej, who was on police remand. He, along with his accomplices Shubham Singh, Rajat Malhotra alias Karan Masti and Amanpreet Rinka, had robbed gold jewellery worth several crores from a jewellery showroom Prem Kumar and Sons located in Guru Bazaar area in September last year. The sensational incident had sparked protests by jewellers and goldsmiths.

Mukhwinder Singh Bhullar, Deputy Commissioner of Police (detective), said the police have recovered 47 gm of gold from Vishal. “The probe revealed that criminal elements loot gold ornaments from jewellery houses located in the market and later sell the same to other goldsmiths,” he said.

While Amanpreet Rinka and Shubham Singh had been nabbed by the police, Karan Masti was murdered in Ghaziabad in UP in November last year. Shubham Singh had also confessed before the police to selling his share of gold to a goldsmith after melting it.

Sukhwinder Singh Randhawa, incharge (CIA), said several other goldsmiths were on the radar of the police.
