Amritsar, April 4

A professor of the Music Department at Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDH) has accused Vice-Chancellor Jaspal Singh Sandhu of sexual harassment. She has filed a complaint to the Chancellor, Governor VP Singh Bandore, CM Capt Amarinder Singh and Police Commissioner, Amritsar, SS Srivastava.

It is worth mentioning here that she was removed as the head of the department a few months ago owing to students’ complaints.

She said, “The issue dates back to 2011. I did not like his behaviour towards me. I had also complained to authorities in 2013 and was assured of action.”

In her complaint, she alleged that the VC victimised her as she thwarted his “advances”.

“I let the matter die down after he moved for his higher assignment. After returning as the Vice-Chancellor last year, he started levelling false allegations against me,” she added.

GNDU spokesperson and Director, Public Relations, Praveen Puri, said, “The allegations against the VC are false. An inquiry against her has been going on in the university as students had complained against her. There is no truth in her complaint.”

Police Commissioner SS Srivastava could not be contacted for comments.
