A three-week refresher course for teacher educators concluded at the UGC-Human Resource Development Centre of Guru Nanak Dev University here on Thursday. As many as 37 teachers from university and colleges participated in it.

Prof Jaspal Singh Sandhu, Vice-Chancellor, presided over the valedictory session. In his valedictory address, he expressed his deep anguish over the falling standards of higher education in the country in comparison with the global scenario. Exhorting the teachers to pull their socks up to stem this rot, he opined that ultimately the teaching fraternity itself across the multiplicity of disciplines has to play a pivotal role in raising the quality of higher education.

Enumerating the achievements of university in the various domains in the last few years, he opined that much needs still to be done by all the stakeholders to make this university one of the best in the country. Concluding his enlightening address, he reminded them of their capacity to transform the life of the students.

Dr Deepa Sikand Kauts, department of education and course coordinator, summarised contents of the course. The course was perceived with the motto that empowerment of teachers can be achieved only through constant enhancement of their expertise, she said.
