GNDU approves new courses

The Syndicate meeting of Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) on Monday approved new courses, admission to B.Tech courses under lateral entry scheme among others.

Vice-Chancellor Jaspal Singh Sandhu presided over the meeting, while Registrar KS Kahlon presented the agenda. Prof Sarbjot Singh Behl, dean academic affairs and syndics were also present.

Sandhu informed the house about the recent developments in the university. Syndicate accorded its approval for starting various courses such as post-graduate diploma in nutrition and fitness and post-graduate diploma in exercise physiology, MYAS-GNDU department of sports science and medicine. The department of architecture and department of Guru Ramdas School of Planning will have M.Arch (urban design), M.Tech.(construction technology and management), MSc human genetics ( five-year integrated course), MSc zoology (five-year integrated course) will be introduced by department of human genetics and department of zoology, respectively. Besides, BA BEd, four years of the integrated programme will be run by the department of education.

The university will now offer admission in BTech courses under lateral entry. The eligible candidates must have passed two years diploma after +2 or three years diploma after matriculation examination in the relevant subject from a state technical board. The candidates must have obtained 50 per cent (45 per cent for SC/ST) marks as aggregate can be admitted in the second year of BTech courses of the university.

The appointment of Dr Mewa Singh, lifelong distinguished professor, department of psychology and institute of excellence, University of Mysore as Professor of Eminence was also approved. Fifty-one candidates for the award of PhD in various faculties were also accorded by the Syndicate. — TNS
