Employees of Guru Nanak Dev Hospital here burnt an effigy of the state government to protest against the government’s “failure” to conduct a meeting with their representatives to discuss their demands.

Narinder Singh, district president, Punjab and Union Territory Employees Union, said the government officials had assured them of a meeting on August 20 to discuss their demands, but no meeting was held.

He said their demands included regularisation of services of contractual employees, release of arrears of dearness allowance, implementation of pay commission report, revival of old pension scheme, implementation of minimum wages for anganwari and midday meal workers, rolling back of development tax on income tax payees and clearance of bills pending with the treasury.

Protesting against the state government, the employees at Guru Nanak Dev Hospital (GNDU) burnt an effigy and demanded release of dearness and other pending allowances.
