Amritsar, June 14

The police have claimed that gangsters Jaggu Bhagwanpuria, Sonu Kangla and Bobby Malhotra got Congress councillor Gurdeep Singh Pehalwan murdered in the city. The police, who brought the gangsters to the city on production warrant, said that the accused confessed that they had hatched the plan to eliminate Pehalwan with the help of their men.

DCP (Investigations) Jagmohan Singh said, “During police remand, Jaggu, Kangla and Bobby confessed that they got Gurdeep Pehalwan murdered as they had been suspecting that the latter had a major role in the murder of gangster Sangam Malhotra, brother of Bobby Malhotra.”

Meanwhile, after the completion of five-day remand, the police presented Jaggu Bhagwanpuria and Sonu Kangla at a local court on Thursday. The police demanded extension of the gangsters’ remand but the court refused. The police pleaded that it wanted to identify their links outside. The court sent them to the jail till next hearing, i.e. June 27. Jaggu has been sent to the Hoshiarpur jail while Sonu Kangla to the Faridkot jail.

Bobby Malhotra has been on five-day police remand since Wednesday. The police have been investigating his links outside the jail. According to information, there is a Facebook page on the name of Sangam Malhotra, which reportedly shared the post, confessing the murder of Gurdeep Pehalwan. The police are trying to ascertain who uploaded that Facebook page.

Jagmohan Singh said, “Such pages are made and run by supporters of gangsters, who are influenced by them. We are investigating this angle separately.”

The police have filed a case against the three gangsters and arrested them for murder.

Police officials claimed that they had been raiding the possible hideouts of Bobby’s accomplices, who murdered Gurdeep.
