The Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) has arrested Mohit Shingari, a close aide of notorious gangsters Sukhpreet alias Herry and Randeep Singh alias Rana Kandowalia for allegedly harassing and blackmailing a local resident.

The victim had approached the ATS after the local police allegedly failed to take prompt action against him, it is learnt. He was later handed over to the local police for taking further action.

Shingari was earlier arrested in January this year by the Special Task Force which was constituted by the previous government to nail gangsters and their associates. He was wanted by the STF in the Tarn Taran gang war that occurred last year. It had led to the killing of a gangster, identified as Dilbagh Singh alias Lamma Patti, while leaving another gangster, Akul Khatri, critically injured.

The STF’s investigations had found him to be the main handler and conspirator in the Tarn Taran gang war, which took place on the intervening night of August 9-10, 2016, between the Bobby Malhotra gang and the Devinder Shooter gang. The entire conspiracy was hatched at the farm house of Mohit Shingari at Loharka Road where Devinder Shooter, Rana Kandowalia, Sukhpreet alias Harry and other members of this gang stayed before the incident.

Sources in the ATS said that Shingari, who was out on bail, enjoyed political shelter due to which certain police officials including an ACP rank official preferred not to take any action when the victim approached the police. He also helped his political masters in the recent civic polls.

When the matter came to ATS it immediately arrested Shingari and later handed him over to police.

Kunwar Vijay Partap Singh, IG, ATS, revealed that Shingari was arrested in a case registered under various sections of the Indian penal Code at State Special Operation Cell several days ago. He was evading the arrest since then. He was produced in the court which sent him on three day police remand.
